Reading Remembers Those Who Died at War – Armistice Day
TWO ceremonies to remember the men and women who sacrificed their lives defending our country will take place on Armistice Day, Friday 11th November.
Reading Mayor Councillor Mohammed Ayub will lead a two minute silence at the Forbury War Memorial at 11am and Deputy Mayor Councillor Rose Williams will lead a similar tribute outside the Civic Offices, in Bridge Street, at the same time. Members of the public are invited to attend either event.
Reading’s main Remembrance Sunday service and parade will take place in the town centre on Sunday 13th November.
The Remembrance Service will begin at Reading Minster at 9.30am with readings from the Bishop of Reading Rt Rev Andrew Proud; Major Paul Smyth (MBE), Officer Commanding Headquarter Company, 7 Rifles; Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire Professor Suzanna Rose DL and the Mayor of Reading Cllr Mohammed Ayub. Members of the public are welcome to join the service.
The service will be followed by a parade through the town centre, led by The 7 Rifles regiment, to the Forbury Gardens. The Remembrance Ceremony at the Forbury War Memorial will include the laying of wreaths and two minutes silence at 11am.

“The ceremonies taking place on Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday are an opportunity for everyone to come together to remember those who paid the ultimate price in defence of our country.
“I hope many people can join me in paying tribute to the brave men and women of our Armed Forces.”
Deputy Mayor Cllr Rose Williams said:
“It is as important now as it has ever been to pause and remember all those who have lost their lives in war and conflict.
“It will be an honour to lead the two minute silence at the Civic Offices and I would encourage as many people as possible to join me.”
