International Day of Older Persons – Celebrated At Loddon Valley
Tai Chi, Zumba Gold and beauty treatments were enjoyed by guests celebrating the International Day of Older Persons at Loddon Valley Leisure Centre, on 1 October.
The event, organised by Wokingham Borough Council and partners, attracted over 200 people aged 60+ and all of the activities, presentations and demos were free of charge.
The council’s sport and leisure team also did blood pressure checks, and local clubs and communities invited residents to join their groups.
International Day of Older Persons Attendees
Attendees were also able to find out about financial support (benefits) and assistive technology (such as lifts). Also on hand, were officers from the Thames Valley Police and Berkshire Fire Service sharing their tips on staying safe at this time of year.
Light lunch was available at a small cost, while those with a sweet tooth were able to taste the selection of cakes and treats prepared especially by students from Addington School in Woodley.
“I was delighted to be able to attend and share the day with our residents,” said Cllr Bill Soane, Wokingham Borough Mayor. “From their life experiences to knowledge, older people have much to offer. I am proud to be supporting the Celebrate Age initiative, for people to remain active and lead a quality life. Many thanks to our officers and partners for organising this wonderful event.”
