Sporting Memories Comes To Berkshire County Sports Club in Sonning
Sporting Memories supports older people living with dementia, depression and loneliness. It does this at social activities where sporting memorabilia and images are used to help people recall memories of watching or playing sport.
By sharing their sporting memories, and tapping into a passion for sport, the sessions empower people to connect with others and their past, reawakening positive thoughts and feelings. Not only does this stimulate their cognitive and physical abilities, but it helps them stay connected to their friends and community.
The project is led by Wokingham Borough Council’s sport and leisure team, which works to helps people aged 50+ remain as healthy as possible.
The sessions are open to people over 50. Those taking part might live with dementia or have memory problems, have experienced depression, had a stroke or live with Parkinson’s. But they all have one thing in common – a love for sport!
Sessions costs £1.50 per person and includes refreshments. Council staff and volunteers will also be on hand. For more information, call the sport and leisure team, on (0118) 974 3728 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org
