Sainsburys Arborfield One Step Closer
Sainsbury’s is progressing with exciting plans for a brand new supermarket in Arborfield as part of the planned District Centre located at the north eastern corner of the Nine Mile Ride Extension.

Following a positive public consultation response to the proposals, which include the creation of around 75 new jobs, Sainsbury’s is now preparing to submit a reserved matters planning application to Wokingham Borough Council detailing the layout, appearance and landscaping of the new store.
Sainsbury’s recently launched a new brand campaign promising Good food for all of us. By providing the widest choice of quality food at great value, it is determined to help everyone make the most of their mealtimes. The new 16,000 sq. ft supermarket will therefore offer customers Sainsbury’s very latest range of fresh and frozen food, high-quality produce and a carefully curated variety of kitchen cupboard essentials to complete a bespoke grocery offer.
The store will also feature a Click & Collect service, giving customers an easy and convenient way to order products online from the much-loved brands of Argos, Habitat and Tu Clothing for collection while picking up their groceries.
Colleagues in the new supermarket will actively work to make a positive difference in Arborfield Green both through local charity and community initiatives, as well as Sainsbury’s nationwide partnerships. For example, the retailer’s Nourish the Nation campaign aims to ensure an even wider pool of people have access to balanced, nutritional and sustainable food sources, as well as helping to prevent people and communities from falling further into food poverty.
The retailer has also donated over 15 million meals worth of surplus food through its partnership with Neighbourly, alongside customer food donations redistributed via FareShare.
Sainsbury’s Property Director, Patrick Dunne said: “We’re excited to be taking the next steps in our plans to invest in a fantastic new supermarket in Arborfield Green, generating new jobs and improving shopping choice for local people. Everyone at Sainsbury’s is passionate about the food we sell, including not only our colleagues but our suppliers, farmers and fishing partners too – we’d be delighted to bring some of that passion to the local community in Arborfield.”
Sainsbury’s stores are specifically designed to be sensitive to the character of the locations they occupy, as well as using the very latest technology to ensure that they are as energy efficient as possible. They use 100% renewable electricity and LED lighting throughout and are not reliant on natural gas for their heating requirements.
