Reading Ale Trail 2023 Launches This Weekend By CAMRA

CAMRA’s popular Reading and Mid Berkshire ale trail for 2023 will be launched at 12.30pm on Saturday 4 March at the Nags Head in Russell Street in Reading.

There are 24 pubs on the trail, in a mix of town centre, suburban and more rural locations.  The way it works is that people can pick up a booklet (from the Nags Head, the Alehouse in Broad Street or the Fox & Hounds, Caversham) and then collect stickers as they visit each pub.

With a full set of 24 stickers, the booklet can be sent in to receive an exclusive T shirt. All completed entries are also automatically entered for a free draw where the prizes are boxes of beer and cider donated by local brewers and cider makers. Entry to the free draw is also available for completing 16 pubs. There are two months to enjoy the trail, and entries must be received by Sunday 14 May.

David Lawton, the Chair of the Reading and Mid Berkshire branch of CAMRA, said: “The Ale Trail is always popular and it’s a brilliant way to encourage people to get out and about and visit the fantastic array of local pubs in and around Reading. There are a few pubs we have not seen in a long while on the Trail this year, such as Clifton Arms, Jolly Farmer, Moderation and Bull in Sonning, who we are sure will be making a positive impression.”

He continued: “There are a couple of guest pubs from outside our branch; the Flowing Spring in Playhatch and the Wheelwrights Arms in St Nicholas Hurst. The Bell at Waltham St Lawrence is again on the trail; it’s a regular winner or runner-up in the local branch Pub of the Year & Cider Pub of the Year contests and has made it to the last 16 for CAMRA’s 2023 National Pub of the Year competition.

All the pubs on the trail have been chosen because they sell good quality real ale and some also stock real cider, so it should be great fun visiting them all and choosing your favourite.

The trail will be officially launched by local CAMRA members at the Nags Head. All are welcome to attend to meet the organisers, pick up their booklet and collect their first sticker of the trail.
