Since 14 January 2023, Harbour Sports Club has proudly trained over 50 Hong Kong
migrants to participate and compete in the Reading Half Marathon 2023, which is to be held on 2
April 2023.

“Reading 21” is a 11-week comprehensive half marathon training programme organised by
Harbour Sports Club. Through the programme, participants are empowered to participate
and complete a half marathon, enhance physical and mental wellbeing, and make new
friends in the community.

The programme consists of:

• 3 training plans designed for different levels of runners;
• 3 online workshops to explain half marathon strategy;
• 10 weekly running practices (in collaboration with “Reading HK Runners”); and
• 3 yoga classes designed for runners.

“I want to encourage you to take part in the Reading 21 programme. I think this is a great
opportunity to get to know Reading physically, culturally and in the community. Also I want
to remind you that you are welcome here in Reading and you are our bridge, and you are
making great contributions to Reading,” said the Reading Mayor, Councillor Rachel Eden,
during the opening workshop of Reading 21.

As kindly sponsored by the Reading Borough Council, Reading 21 was offered for free to the
community, in particular new migrants. As at 20 March, a total attendance of over 400 was
recorded in events under Reading 21.
