From Monday February 1, Reading parking enters the digital age with drivers being able to pay for parking via their mobile phones.

Not only do drivers need to worry about rifling through loose change, but they can also top up their parking remotely – no more racing back to the car park for that vital few extra minutes.

Drivers can register ahead of time by visiting www.myRingGo.co.uk/register. Once registered, drivers can add to their balance with a credit or debit card.

When at the car park, the driver enters a 5 digit area code which will be displayed on the pay and display machine.

Alternatively drivers can register at the same time as they want to park, either by using the RingGo apps, or by calling the RingGo number which is 0118 321 7744.

Traffic wardens can then check which vehicles are parked with RingGo via their handheld units.

Never be late again

Registered motorists also benefit from an optional text message alert system, which gives a warning when parking is coming to an end. At that point you can eitehr head back to your vehicle, or top up on the spot – no matter where you are in Reading.

The price of using the RingGo service is 20p including VAT, which is passed onto the motorist. Reminder text messages and receipts for the RingGo payment then additionally cost 10p including VAT.

Cash still accepted

Of course those drivers who prefer to pay by cash will still be able to do so., using the existing pay and display machines.

The RingGo system already operates in more than 230 towns and cities nationwide.
