Broad Street Mall’s ‘Bluey the Whale’ has gone down a storm, with almost 500 bottles collected!
Broad Street Mall has been doing its bit to be more sustainable and support Great Big Green Week 2024 over the past month.
From 8th June to 8th July, customers were joined by a giant recycling whale at the centre, in a bid to educate and entice people to become greener in their everyday lives. The giant eco-friendly whale, made from recyclable and biodegradable biomaterial, offered customers a recycling point where they could drop off their plastic bottles and do their bit for the planet, as well as creating an eye-catching installation for customers to enjoy.
Following a fantastic contribution to the initiative from the local community, ‘Bluey the whale’ collected 488 bottles in total, an incredible result showing how important green issues are to visitors of the scheme.
If that’s not enough, the centre also ran a competition via their socials. Followers needed to guess how many bottles the whale would collect in total by the end of the initiative, to be in with the chance of winning a Green Week themed prize.
Visitors were also invited to check out Broad Street Mall’s top tip sustainability guide, highlighting how to have a more sustainable trip to the centre. The guide included a whole host of information, from recycling and reducing food waste to sustainable purchases and where you can get water refills. Sustainability and ‘green living’ are really important to the centre and the initiatives on offer during Green Week and beyond are aimed at helping to encourage customers to think about how they could shop more sustainably, as well as highlighting small changes that can make a big difference.
