£26,950 for Reading’s Library and Theatre Programme
READING’S Library Service has received a grant of £26,950 to deliver a series of theatre shows at its libraries, starting in October this year and running over two years.
The award from the Arts Council will enable the library service to commission three small scale shows aimed at school children aged 5-8 and for the whole family during weekends.
The whole community will get a chance to enjoy the interactive storytelling performances since the shows are taking place across all the Reading Library branches in October during Reading’s Year of Culture Literary Month.
In the second year, there will also be a library themed show devised by a local theatre company, based on the book ‘Fizzlebert Stump: The Boy Who Ran Away From the Circus (and joined the library),’ by renowned local author AF Harold. This show will premiere at the revamped South Street Arts Centre.
Lead Member for Culture, Cllr Paul Gittings, said:
“This generous Arts Council award will enable the Library Service to offer a wonderful theatre experience for Reading’s children and local families all across the borough. The shows are also a fantastic complement to Reading’s Year of Culture Literary Month in October.”
