Calcot

Calcot Park HouseCalcot is a suburb of Reading situated to the west of the town centre, along the A4 Bath Road and adjacent to Junction 12 of the M4 motorway. Tilehurst lies to the north and Theale lies to the west across the motorway. The Beansheaf Farm and Fords Farm housing estates are to the south.

Although a suburb of Reading, Calcot is not within the Borough of Reading but comes under the unitary authority of West Berkshire.

To the north east of Calcot, you will find Calcot Park country house and estate. Built by John Blagrave in 1755 it replaced the original house owned by Frances Kendrick, and her husband, Benjamin Child, who went on to build a new mansion in the centre of Prospect Park.

Calcot club house apartmentsThe Calcot Golf Course was constructed in 1929 and for a period of time the mansion was used as a Club House, however this was sold off in 1960 and converted into apartments.

To the south of Calcot is Calcot Mill. A former watermill situated on the Holy Brook, which was on the original site of a mill that was owned by the monks of Reading Abbey. The existing mill has now also been converted into apartments.

Today Calcot is perhaps most famous for the large supermarket and shopping complex situated off Pincents Lane.
